5,000 AND COUNTING .... PETITION TO SAVE ASTROLAND NETS 5,000 SIGNATURES AND GOES INTERNATIONAL AS RESIDENTS OF BRAZIL, CANADA, ENGLAND AND ITALY SIGN ON
Coney Island, NY – This summer, Coney Island's good times seemed destined to roll on forever at the Astroland Amusement Park. Sadly, this is not true. First opened in 1962, the end of Astroland Amusement Park is less than a week away. Unless something is done quickly, Astroland will shut its doors forever on September 9, 2007, for a lack of a new lease. Negotiations on a lease for the 2008 season have broken down and there is no resolution in sight. According to recent reports, the breakdown apparently centers around the issues of Thor Equities' desire to secure zoning changes and increase Astroland's annual rent from $170,000 to $3 million. - READ FULL RELEASE -
